Still need more convincing that Austin is a good place to live? Let's talk about the weather!

What's the Weather Like in Austin, Texas?

Let's cut to the chase. Summers are long and hot, with average high temperatures often soaring above 90°F, and it is not uncommon to see extended stretches of triple digits. While the intense summer heat can be challenging for those who enjoy staying active, early mornings and evenings provide cooler temperatures for activities like those we've discussed so far. Public spots like Barton Springs Pool, which offers natural spring water, also offer a refreshing escape from the heat.

Another way to stay active in the summer heat is by exploring some of Austin's many indoor climbing gyms. This offers a great way to stay active in a fun environment that won't leave you with heat exhaustion from the intense sun we have in Texas.

While the summer heat can be intense, Austin's weather is actually very pleasant for most of the year. Generally, temperatures are pretty mild in the winter months and hover in the 60s most of the time. However, the occasional 30-degree day isn't totally uncommon.

Spring and Fall are also very pleasant with temperatures often in the 70s and 80s. This mild winter weather allows for active individuals to participate in outdoor activities year-round!

Does It Snow in Austin?

When I first moved to Austin from Vermont, I didn't bring a single article of cold-weather clothing with me, thinking to myself that I would never see snow again. Seven years later, I'm quite surprised to say that I have seen snow at least once almost every winter that I have lived in Central Texas.

While the snowfall is usually an inch or so, there was a small snowstorm in 2021 that caused a bit of havoc throughout the state. I say small because, by Vermont standards, it was quite small. However, due to a lack of local infrastructure, the few inches of snow and temperatures in the 20s were enough to shut things down for several days for most residents.

Other than that, the weather is often very pleasant in the wintertime!
